External Wall Panel Systems for National Memorial Arboretum

BCL’s Maintenance-Free Timber Cladding Transformation

The new Remembrance Centre, sitting comfortably within its surroundings at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire, was built in order to better serve the increasing number of visitors each year. With new cafe facilities and an interactive learning centre for visiting schools, the project heavily features both internal and external BCL timber slatted panels to complete the specific aesthetic intended by its Architects, Glenn Howells.

The external envelope is wrapped in over 1,500 sqm of secretly fixed BCL Timber cladding panels, taking a total of 12 weeks to complete and featuring a unique ‘pre-weathered’ look stain finish, creating a beautiful look on day-1, that will not change colour as the building ages, nor require any maintenance by the end client.

The wooden cladding panels use FSC certified Siberian larch, in an L-shape profile, which then underwent FR pressure impregnation and finally the stain to mimic the colour of already aged timber in order, minimising the colour change across the facade and avoiding the issue of uneven weathering to external timber cladding.
