Coventry University’s Cutting-Edge Science and Health Building

Coventry University’s new Science and Health Building, designed by Broadway Malyan and developed by BAM Construction, was completed in 2017 and features BCL acoustic timber panelsthroughout its interior. The new building, as part of an investment programme in the University’s centre of excellence for learning and research, includes a replicate “patient journey” from A&E through to recovery, simulated hospital wards and Olympic grade fitness & sports research facilities.

American white Oak BCL timber panels clad the walls and ceilings of the common spaces, adding organic warmth and Class B (ISO 11654:1997) acoustic absorption to the building. Each timber slat was also treated with a factory applied FR lacquer, providing class 0 (BS 476) fire protection. The wood ceilings are fixed to a concealed support grid, with all services and lighting integrated into panels, removing any requirement for site cutting or modification, maximising installation efficiency on site.

As per every BCL panel system, we provided support and guidance throughout every step of the process to ensure the highest quality of work was provided and deliver areas of beautiful wooden slatted walls for the Main Contractor.
