New Lecture Theatre with Stunning Wooden Slatted Panels

Led by Feilden Clegg Bradley architects and developed by Galliford Try, Bristol University saw the construction of a 450 seat lecture theatre added to the Priory Road complex, completed in 2014 and uses Siberian Larch wooden slatted panels by BCL throughout. It is one of the most important new facilities for the University’s growth project – previously the largest lecture theatre they had could seat just 380 students and due to more people attending university each year, adding key learning space was incredibly important to the end client.

For the wooden ceilings and walls, BCL’s Siberian Larch acoustic timber panels were selected. Measuring at 100 x 25 mm for the ceiling and 50 x 25 mm for the walls, across 596 m2 of the space, the prefabricated timber panels were fitted over dark grey acoustic fleece and fitted with our concealed fixings. Due to some timber wall panels being at a low level, Siberian Larch (@ 725Kg/m3 density) was the right choice thanks to its strength and hardness, providing a beautiful and impact resistant solution for the client. All panels were coated with class 1 SSF fire treatment to ensure fire performance in accordance with BS 476.
