London Heathrow LHR Airport Terminal 2 in the United Kingdom By Markus Mainka

BCL are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the contract to design, supply and install our proprietary A2 fire rated timber effect panels at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 2 as part of their new  £1.3 billion upgrade. We will be using over 200 square meters of aluminium extruded wood slats to the walls and ceilings of the terminal’s host area for new client Chisholm and Winch.

The design phase will begin with advanced modelling in BIM at Level 2, ensuring complete integration of services and full coordination with other trades and our timber panels.

In addition to our standard wood slat panels,  our aluminium wood effect panel systems have also undergone rigorous evaluation by threat protection specialists. This involves static load tests, computer modelling and optimisation to meet ASIAD (Aviation Security in Airport Developments) requirements, ensuring the highest possible security and assurance provided by a panel system, specifically designed for high security airport settings.

ASIAD is a policy document developed by the Department of Transport in the UK to encourage incorporation of design elements, such as BCL’s unique fire resistant wood panels , that increase the security and reduce the impact of potential bomb blasts. This technical modelling and assessment was essential in the success of our tender and further reinforces BCL’s commitment to innovation, safety and design excellence in timber panelling and non-combustible aluminium wood panel systems for walls & ceilings.
