Completed in June 2016, Wingfield Primary School was designed by DLA Architecture and developed by Galiford Try. The school, previously only for pupils aged 4-11 years, now sits alongside a 56 place nursery. According to DLA Architecture, the building's layout is a series of hierarchal spaces, encouraging the progression of age groups through the school, from the nursery on the ground floor to the top floor which is home to the key stage 2 students.
BCL used Western Red Cedar for the exterior vertical wood cladding panels, employing secret fixings, ensuring a smooth modern finish and increased durability. All timber was PEFC and FSC certified, creating timber cladding panels that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but sustainable and deliver maximum BREEAM points for the client. Each timber panel has also been treated with pressurised Class 0 fire protection, requiring zero maintenance.
As per every BCL wooden cladding panel system, we provided support throughout the entire process to both Architect & Main Contractor - from design to manufacture and then installation. By using BCL’s rapid installation panel system, both on site waste and prelims were minimised, reducing over all and costs and creating better on-site efficiency.
