The new £14 million Eldon Building acts as a link for the main entrance and the whole faculty. Designed by Penoyre Prasad Architects and developed by Morgan Sindall, the Creative and Cultural Industries building was opened in May 2014 by Sandi Toksvig. The space has lecture theatres, seminar rooms, exhibition and café spaces, home to a range of courses from photography and graphics to architecture and film.

BCL were set with the task of cladding the walls and ceilings of the building including a curved bulkhead detail. The timber species of choice was Ash, which was placed over the acoustic fabric lining and acoustic infill pads for the corridor areas, maximising sound absorption. The wood slat ceiling system made room for continuous light runs with light aperture including support patress’. Every panel was treated with a factory applied treatment achieving class 1 SSF fire protection. The manufacture of these panels was done off site to minimise on site waste, and BCL provided support throughout the entire process to ensure the work was completed to the highest standard.

We really enjoyed working on this project and taking part in providing additional learning spaces for the students of Portsmouth University.
