Siberian Larch Panels Enhance Hospice Ceilings

Designed by Architype Architects and developed by Speller Metcalfe, St Michael’s Hospice in Hereford underwent a redevelopment which was completed in June 2016. The building was given a new entrance area, a new inpatient wing, bereavement suite, quiet rooms, café, educational facility and improved staff facilities. This project was awarded the 2017 RIBA West Midlands Regional Award.

BCL Timber Siberian Larch curved wood panels are suspended from the ceilings which give the hospice a warm and natural feel. Each timber slatted panel is treated with a factory applied fire resistant lacquer to achieve class 0 flame protection requiring no maintenance. The system is fitted with prefabricated aluminium suspension profiles and clips with black acoustically transparent tissue fabric and 50 mm thick mineral fibre insulation which has been laid over the suspension system. As per every BCL system, our flexible design approach, manufacture and installation teams provided the knowledge and skill needed to ensure the highest standard of work was achieved at every stage of the project. Using our secret fixings, the timber is smooth and continuous with no visible screws or nails.
