West Drayton Leisure Centre

The installation of our unique Aluminium wood effect panels is almost complete at West Drayton Leisure Centre – and the final finish delivers not only a beautifully uniform and modern aesthetic, but also exceptional Class A fire performance in full accordance with EN13501-1.

The project, after the fall of Buckingham Group into administration in September 2023, had been placed on hold with its future uncertain. However, the baton was picked-up by the Local Authority and end-user client itself, Hillingdon Council in May 2024, who opted to complete the remaining scheme and deliver its’ ambitious design, officially named ‘The Platinum Jubilee Leisure Centre’ – and at its centre, imposing acoustic wood ceilings covering the main pool area and largest single space within the project.

However, given the project scenario and risk profile of wood Vs. aluminium, the increased performance of our fire resistant wood effect system was preferred, not only because it allowed an easier route to sign-off in terms of fire assessment, but also provided a greater level of assurance to the end-client in terms of performance, movement and overall aesthetics in the potentially higher moisture scenario of a pool environment.

BCL’s Aluminium ‘TIMBER EFFECT’ has a unique polyurethane-based coating, far more durable than traditional Polyester based PPC coatings – this, coupled with a highly detailed sublimation process, allows the creation of realistic and organic fire proof wood aesthetics, all within an exceptionally robust system, offering increased durability and assurance to all stakeholders involved.

This makes BCL’s non-combustible ‘TIMBER EFFECT’ not only great for internal use, but also the perfect choice for A1 cladding and non-combustible external facades, where exceptional fire performance, high durability and a realistic wood effect finish are all required. Plus, with the added benefit of the full BIM Level 2 design & direct installation capacity of the UK’s leading timber panel system for large commercial projects.
