Completed in December 2007, the Highcross Mall in Leicester was designed by Chapman Taylor / Beony, constructed by Sir Robert McAlpine and features a beautiful central wood ceiling from BCL throughout its concourses. The 93,000 m2 development included 52 shops, restaurants, cinema, housing and parking. In 2008 it was awarded a BREEAM rating of “very good” and also won the BCSC Gold Award in 2008.

BCL manufactured and installed this 1000 m2 timber slat ceiling system with the installation taking just 6 weeks, providing substantial savings in both time and money over traditional site-fix methods. This complex acoustic timber panel system consisted of Western Red Cedar slats with two inwardly-curving skylight areas to join the both new and existing shopping malls. All timber used was PEFC certified, ensuring it had been sourced from a sustainable and ethical supplier. Each acoustic wood panel had been treated with a factory applied lacquer to achieve Class 0 (BS476) Fire Protection which would require no maintenance.  Using our secret fixings the panels have a smooth contemporary finish as well as prolonging the life of the timber by not fixing nails into the panels.
