A true landmark project in environmentally conscious construction, the Blue Planet in Chatterley Valley is the UK’s first carbon positive, BREEAM excellent rated logistics park. It was therefore essential that the procurement routes of this project met the same exacting environmental standards and that the design quality of the cladding itself reflected the high profile nature of the project.

Horizontal and vertical cladding panels were manufactured off-site, then installed and aligned using BCL’s dynamic bracketing system along with all aluminium feature trims.

John F Kennedy School had decided to provide new teaching and sports facilities to its students after winning an £8.5M government grant. The main focus of the project was to deliver the new buildings with minimum impact to the surrounding environment. Therefore an obvious choice for the envelope was a BCL western red cedar system, pre-fabricated and environmentally sourced, reducing the duration of on-site works and thus minimising the overall disruption to everyday school life.

As with many projects, BCL was used in its full ‘turn-key’ capacity, designing, manufacturing and installing not only the timber cladding system, but all insulation, membranes and steel framing system.

Southampton University’s new Life Sciences Building, known as Building 85, will accommodate the Schools of Biological Sciences and Medicine and the newly established Institute for Life Sciences (IfLS) and is being designed to reflect the University’s ambition to establish a world-leading, agenda-setting centre of cross-disciplinary research, learning, and innovation.

The timber itself has been treated with a UV protective coating, the first project in the UK to use the ‘Suncare’ system from Boheme, allowing the timber to retain its beautiful natural colours for the lifetime of the building.
