Features
The inherent durability and attractive natural colour range found within
western red cedar made this the perfect choice of species for the cladding on
this important project.
The kiln-dried cedar used is the best grade available known as ‘No 2 clear
& better’ and was purchased through BCL supply partner Vincent Timber’s
BM TRADA certifi ed chain of custody supply scheme.
To further enhance the overall appearance, each profi led slat has been
coated using a high performance ‘light oak’ lacquer from Sikkens, with each
slat being treated off-site prior to panel assembly to ensure that a consistent
top quality fi nish is maintained.
The cladding is designed by BCL Timber Projects as a ventilated-cavity
rain-screen system which incorporates insulation, vapour control layer and
breather membrane.
The panels themselves are assembled from individual ship-lap boards and
are mounted onto adjustable brackets as part of a bespoke grid system that
ensures levelling and alignment.
Panels are individually assembled in customised jigs in BCL’s own
joinery workshops, where a rigidly applied Quality Control process ensures a
consistently high level of dimensional accuracy.
These highly effi cient off-site fabrication techniques have been developed
by BCL Timber Projects over many years to provide bespoke timber cladding
solutions that are highly price competitive when compared to other systems
available on the market.
